Mary Webster--Aesthetic Stock #13 AESTHETIC WALL FRAME WITH DECORATIVE MAT
Circa 1880

  • One of the best examples of an ebonized Aesthetic frame I've come across in a long time. This frame is made up of two moldings, and it was probably always intended to hang on the wall. Note the variety of the naturalistic incised carving left and right. The geometric running ornament on the inner molding is repeated along the bottom stick of the principal molding. The beige paper mat has assymtrical floral decoration and beige silk fabric showing through the two narrow windows.
  • Outside dimensions 17"H x 14"W
  • Rabbet size 10"H x 8"W
  • Sight size of the mat 5 1/4"H x 3 3/4"W
  • Total molding width 2"
  • Molding depth 3/4"
  • Very good condition with minor surface wear. The mat looks good, with one small tear upper left, a little foxing but no water marks.
