Mary Webster--Arts & Crafts Stock #2 GILDED OAK WITH SANDED PANEL
Circa 1900

  • A two-part frame, with a flat-profiled gilded oak molding and a flat sanded liner. The sight edge of the liner is water-gilded over gray bole. The thin outside edge of the frame is painted black.

This is one of my favorite frames. I love the subtlety of the colors and the unusual combination of the sanded panel and the gilded oak. I think it must be a fairly early use of gilded oak. The smooth gold leaf sight edge detail makes a third contrasting texture.
