Mary Webster--Empire Stock #14 PAIR OF ROSEWOOD VENEER FRAMES
Circa 1835

  • Beautiful pair of early rosewood veneer frames, probably English. Rich warm patina; early surfaces. Note how the wood on one of the frames is much more highly figured than on the other. The frames have wide profiles that bevel toward the sight edges, and the gilded liners repeat that profile. The outside edges are painted black. Lap-joined corners. Early glass included.

  • Rabbet size 9"H x 8"W plus allowance
  • Total molding width 2 3/8"
  • Sight size 7 5/8" x 6 1/2"
  • Depth at outside edge 1 1/4"
  • Overall size 12 1/4"H x 11 1/4"W
  • Condition: very good with minor losses in the veneer along the outer edges. In the center bottom there is a little marring of the veneer surface from where the frames have been piled on top of each other, which is visible in a raking light.
