Mary Webster--Federal Stock #9
EARLY GILDED FRAME
Circa 1820

  • The early date assigned to this frame is justified by the deeply scooped profile and the high outside edges of the molding. The bole is a soft brown. The outside edges are flat and on one of the sticks you can see a layer of early mustard-colored paint over white.
  • Rabbet size 12"H x 9 3/4"W
  • Overall size 15"H x 13"W
  • Sight size 11 1/8"H x 9 1/8"W
  • Molding width 2"
  • Height at outside edge 2"
  • Condition: very good with some surface wear and gesso losses on the highest edges. Two of the outside edges show traces of old gold overpaint. The rabbet has been routered out just a little along the two short sides.
