Mary Webster--Federal Stock #3 FEDERAL FRAME WITH BEADED COVE
Circa 1810

  • Fine early frame in a rare large size. This English profile was used extensively in America in the early 19th Century. Deep cove with a high, thin outside edge. The beaded element was made separately and tacked into the cove. Barely noticeable is the unusual zigzag patten along the crest of the sight edge rise. Gold leaf over reddish-brown bole; mitered corners; early brass hanging hook. The outside edges of the frame are concave and show traces of early pinkish-yellow paint. The rabbet, as is characteristic of these early frames, is very deep at 5/8".
