Mary Webster--Federal Stock #4 EARLY GILDED FRAME WITH COMPO ORNAMENT
Circa 1820

  • Rare frame with a flat canted profile in the Sully style, but with compo ornament along the inner and outer edges. The acanthus leaf pattern along the sight edge makes me think that this might be a very early frame in the Sully style. The outside edges are slightly concave and painted in early mustard-colored paint.
  • Rabbet size 12 3/4"H x 9 7/8"W
  • Sight size 11 5/8"H x 8 3/4"W
  • Outside dimensions 17 1/2"H x 14 1/2"W
  • Width of molding 3"
  • Depth of molding 2 1/4"
  • Condition: original gold leaf surface shows a little flaking, which is visible in the detail photos. Compo losses in the corners and a little gesso missing along the sight edge.
